About Us

Hi reader! I'm Mel Heth (actually, Mel Heth Maris now) and Mr. Wonderful is not only my silent partner on this blog (one of these days, I'm going to convince him to write a post), he's the love of my life.

Our story began back in the fall of 2007 when our fates collided on Yahoo! Personals. I was on the mend after a messy break-up and Mr. W was trying to find someone who could spell correctly while chatting on Instant Messenger. Yes, he actually told me this at one point. So he sent me a note on Yahoo!, and after five whole weeks of bantering back and forth over email, he finally took me out on our first date.

On some level I think we both knew that night that this was something special and different. When our server jokingly asked us, "First date?", Mr. W told him that we had been married for five years.

Of course, I was ready to marry the pants off Mr. W as soon as I realized I was in love with him. But he's a bit more logical and practical so he took his time working up to the big walk down the aisle. We'd been together two and half years when he proposed in July of 2010. He didn't get down on one knee and he gave me a rubber worm instead of my real ring (at first).

I couldn't have asked for a better proposal. I loved every second of it.

On March 19th, 2011, we exchanged our vows in an intimate ceremony in Toluca Lake, CA. It was the best day of my life thus far. Seriously, I couldn't have dreamed it up better.

We lived happily together in the hills of Hollywood during the first couple years of our marriage, but we had long been dreaming of a more rural life—with an extensive veggie garden and chickens and grapevines. So in August of 2013, we took a huge leap and moved to the wine country north of Santa Barbara.

We live here with one fat cat, one skinny cat, and four sassy hens. When he's not working on projects around our homestead, Mr. W works as fancy “industry” person and I write by day and coach whenever I can. We hope some day to be hosting coaching retreats or farm table dinners at our humble little one-acre abode.

We love talking with our blog visitors, so if you ever want to chat about love, life, wine, food, crafting, gardening or pretty much anything, please don't hesitate to email us!

Thanks for reading our stories!
